THE WAY I SEE IT
                                        LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN!

By: Matt Reynolds

The Lenth and Reynolds families have been at it a long time. Elden & Bea and their family started with Hereford cattle in 1968. Milk cows and hogs in the early years, to producing corn, hay and the right kind of cattle has been the way of life.

Hereford cattle have been apart of the Reynolds family lives for over 60 years, Joe W. Haines (Matt’s Great Grandfather) started the herd of Herefords. Since probably before I can remember Hereford cattle have been a very important part of my life. I can remember showing a grand over all champion steer at my first county fair, yes he was a Hereford. In 1985 Barb Lenth became the most important part of my life. As you can tell we didn’t put Herefords on the back burner. In 1991 and 1995 the two most important things in Matt & Barb’s lives were added, Tye & Makayla.

As all of us across America struggled to survive the 80’s, and then to be faced with the decade of change in the 90’s, where must we be headed? The Twenty-First Century is right around the corner. We have all found a way to make it through the 80’s and 90’s but where is the next century taking us. Time will not stop for us to think about it. When I say let's make it happen, I feel one producer can not make it on his own. The word LETS to me is a very big word. I feel we will all have to work together, we as producers are being forced by the consumer to produce an exceptable product. I have realized myself that this was coming, and you tell yourself, I’m a small producer this will not effect me. We must not kid ourselves it is happening we must face it. You might say I’m so small I can’t do anything, but you can. John Elway didn’t win the super bowl all by himself, it took a team effort. There are so many steps and processes to this system. Just this past January at the Missouri Cattlemen Association Convention I was talking with a couple of guys that own and operate a feedlot in western Kansas. The conversation became very interesting and long; they both pointed a finger at me and said you are the guys that have to make the difference. What they were referring to was that we are seedstock producers, if we don’t produce the kind of cattle it takes to produce the end product on the rail we might just as well forget it. I hope you see it as we do, and care enough about the future that by working together we can and will make a difference. When I say you must find someone to work with, I mean it. You must most importantly work with someone you can trust, someone you believe in, someone that will be honest with you. If you have used cattle from the Lenth or Reynolds we hope they worked for you as well as they have for us. If you haven’t ever seen our cattle come by either operation, we’d like to show you what our breeding program can offer. If you can’t make it by feel free to give us a call. We will tell you the way it is. If we have found any problems in any of the bloodlines, we will tell you and they will not be for sale. If we can’t be honest to ourselves the future will not exist. We can’t afford problem cattle and neither can you. We again invite you for a visit or just give us a call with any questions that you might have.
