EAGA PROGRAM
- EAGA Bulls are
developed on a high roughage ration designed for “Optimum”
growth not “Maximum Gain” - - - There is a difference!
- EAGA Bulls are
developed in large dirt lots where they have plenty of room to
exercise and condition. For yearling bulls to breed
as yearlings they must be conditioned much as an athlete would
condition.
- EAGA Bulls are
weighed every 30 days to monitor gain, health and body
condition.
- EAGA Bulls are
“Disposition” scored 5 times during development. The
average disposition score is published in the sale catalog.
Disposition may be the single most important “Convenience” trait
in beef cattle.
- EAGA Bulls
stay in large contemporary groups adding credibility to the
data.
- All EAGA bulls
are ultrasounded for carcass traits with adjusted measurements
printed in the sale catalog.
- All EAGA bulls
have been tested negative for PI-BVD BEFORE delivery to the
development center.
- All EAGA bulls
were individually inspected by a veterinarian on delivery.
- One-half of
all EAGA bulls are sired by major AI sires. Included are
many groups of AI Sired ½ brothers.
- All EAGA bulls
must pass a Breeding Soundness Exam including a minimum scrotal
measurement to qualify for an EAGA sale.
- All EAGA Bulls
come from long established herds where strong cow families have
been identified and developed, cow families that add strength to
the total genetic package on an “EAGA Bull”.
- EAGA Bull
sired feeder calves quality for EAGA Influence feeder calf sales
held each December at Dunlap Livestock Auction.
- EAGA Bull
sired bred heifers and heifers bred to EAGA Bulls qualify for
EAGA Influence Bred Heifer sales held in late October or early
November at the Dunlap Livestock Auction.
- EAGA Breeders
each have an average of 20 years experience breeding and sell
Angus seedstock.
- EAGA Breeders
combine a broad range of experiences in producing, testing and
meeting the needs of beef cattle producer clients.
- EAGA Breeders
have participated in numerous central tests including Midland,
ICA, Tri-County and Iowa Angus Association to name a few.
- EAGA Members
are progressive Angus Breeders working together to breed,
produce, develop, market, deliver and service superior
cutting-edge seedstock genetics that meet and exceed their
customer’s expectations.
In 2004 we had the top selling
bull at the EAGA sale, He was a Limited Design son selling to
David Loutenzenhiser of Blockton, Iowa. That bull's first
calf crop of 27 head are all in the Tri County Steer Futurity
test at Oakland, Iowa. These calves have a 107 average daily
gain ratio, and a 102.3 weight per day of age ratio at the
interim wt. taken at the half way point of the test. That
bulls maternal brother sells in this year's sale, and is 312
EAGA tag, or the 6012 home tag. This is what top genetics can
do, they pay for themselves in a very short time over average
qualtiy bulls.
