2008 Heifer and Steer Futurity Rules

1. Open to registered, purebred, Michigan born Shorthorn calves owned by junior exhibitors.

2. A $25.00 per animal entry fee must be paid before the first show. The only exception will
    pertain to heifer calves purchased at the Michigan Beef Expo Shorthorn Sale. They can be
    nominated at the 2007 Michigan Beef Expo provided all other requirements have been met.

3. The five qualifying shows will consist of:
    Mi Winter Classic, Michigan Beef Expo, Summer Showcase Junior Show,
    Mi Junior Shorthorn Association State Show* and Mi State Fair Junior Shorthorn Show

4. Points will be awarded for each calf as follows:
       a. 1st – 6 x # of head in class
       b. 2nd – 4 x # of head in class
       c. 3rd – 3 x # of head in class
       d. 4th – 2 x # of head in class
       e. 5th – 1 x # of head in class
   
   f.  6th and below – 5 points

5. Shorthorn Division Champion points will be awarded as follows:
       a. Champion – 15 points
       b. Reserve Champion – 10 points

   Overall Show Champion points will be awarded as follows:
       a. Grand Champion – 10 points
       b. Reserve Grand Champion – 5 points

6. The champion of the show will receive equal to or more points than the highest class point recipient
    plus the bonus. Points are assigned to the animal and will be counted from four out of the five shows.

7. In case of a tie the show with the largest number of cattle will be used to break the tie. The animal with
    the most points from the largest show will be the winner.

8. 90% payout will be awarded to the top three heifers and steers in the amounts of
       a. 1st Place – 50%
       b. 2nd Place – 30%
   
   c. 3rd Place – 20%

9. The website will be updated following each show with the most current point standings.

* In order to show at the 2008 Michigan Junior Shorthorn Association State Show, junior membership dues must be paid by June 1, 2008. The MJSA is hosting their State Show June 21st at the Clinton County 4-H Fairgrounds. Contact any Junior Board member or advisor for more information on this show.
