2004 Futurity Heifer Show                                  

Shorthorn Heifers of show age that are purchased at the 2004 Royal Sale held during the Iowa Beef Expo are eligible for the Iowa Shorthorn Futurity Show. You do not need to be a Junior to show. The Futurity Heifer Show will be in June, in conjunction with the Iowa Junior Field Day. No entry fee. Payback: Champion Heifer is $500 and Reserve heifer is $250. Class money prorated. 2005 Futurity Steer Show                                                  

Shorthorn steers born in 2004 can be nominated by their Iowa breeder for $20 per steer. The breeder must be a member of the Iowa Shorthorn Association. The $20 fee and copy of the registration certificate must be received by January 15th, 2005 (last newsletter was incorrect). It should be sent to: Bill Nichols 61228 Oxford Road, Atlantic, IA 50022

This year the Iowa Junior Field Day was held at the Boone County Fairgrounds at Boone, Iowa on June 1, 2004.

The Steer & Heifer Futurity was held at the time. Futurity Steers were nominated by the breeders last winter. All show age heifers sold at the 2004 Iowa Royal Sale were eligible for the Futurity Show. The Futurity Heifers DID NOT have to be owned by a Junior.


75 head of Heifers and Steers arrived in Boone, Iowa on June 1st for the annual Junior Field Day. Ernie Wallace judged the show.

2004 Futurity Heifer                                                             

There were 35 head eligible for the show. All these heifers were sold at the 2004 Beef Expo. 14 returned to compete for $1750.00 in premium money.

Champion Purebred Heifer was exhibited by Blake Mcollough; his heifer was bred by Good Time Girls.

Reserve Purebred Heifer was exhibited by Ashley Studer; her heifer was bred by Dave Luett.

Champion Appendix Heifer was exhibited by Michaela Bormann; this heifer was bred by Questing Hills.

Reserve Appendix Heifer was exhibited by Cody Bernard; his heifer was bred by Kyle Ruth

2004 Futurity Steer Show                                                                           

Our 2004 Futurity Steer Show went well. We had 5 head show out of 30 head that were nominated. All the entry fees were paid back.

Plan to follow same rules for 2004, which are: Steers born in 2003 can be nominated by their IOWA breeder for $20.00 per steer. The $20.00 nomination fee and a copy of registration certificate must be sent to Bill Nichols by January 15, 2004. The Futurity Show will be held at the Iowa Junior Show and all the money will be paid back. Both Purebred and Appendix Steers will be eligible.
Remember the steers must be nominated by the breeder not the buyer and you must be a member of the Iowa Shorthorn Association

Show Biz                                                                                                    

A very special CONGRATULATIONS goes out to Tom & Sandy Johnson and Kelsi Mehmen. Tom for breeding a Heifer that was named Champion Open Heifer at the 2003 National Western Stock Show. She was also named the Reserve Champion Heifer in the Junior Show. Kelsi Mehmen was the proud owner who exhibited "Rose" to those Championships.
